Welcome!

Greetings! My name is Julie Ramer. I grew up in Atlantic, Iowa and attended college at Ellsworth Community College right after graduation in 1990. I then transferred to Iowa State University, where I graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree in English Education. To continue my education, I graduated from Drake with my Masters of Science in Education in 1999, and in December 2021, I received notice that I had successfully completed the requirements to be recognized as a National Board Certified Teacher. I have been teaching at Ballard for 27 years, and I can't imagine teaching anywhere else! I started as a one-year substitute for 7th and 8th grade in 1995 and then accepted a full-time position teaching 9th-grade Survey of English the following year. Over the course of my time at Ballard, I have also taught 10th -grade American Literature and Composition, Creative Writing, Independent Reading, Workplace Readiness classes, and now I teach 11th-grade World Literature and Composition and 12th-grade Senior English.

My husband Brad works for Fridley Theatres in Des Moines, Iowa, and I have three daughters. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, gardening, traveling, watching movies, improving my photography skills, and riding my horses.
