Weekly Announcements

  • May 8-12
This week is a big week for first grade because we will move our chicken eggs into the incubator where they will (hopefully) hatch, and Friday is the night they will have the opportunity to perform their musical for all their family and friends! There are only 14 1/2 days left of school, but we still have a lot to learn. :)

    Take-Home Readers
If your child has his or her take-home reader at home, please be sure to return it back to school by Friday, May 19th.

    Musical Attire
We have been working very hard on the musical that will be performed this Friday night! Miss Fuerstenberg has asked that the first grade students wear a plain colored t-shirt with jean shorts and tennis shoes. She would like them to be very colorful, as if they were at a circus or watching a magic show. If you have any questions, please contact me!

    Field Trip
We have enough drivers for our field trip! If you would still like to come, please sign up as a driver on the permission form. Doing this will help me when I divide students up into cars. If you have not signed up for the field trip already, please do so by TOMORROW. Students who have not been signed up by Tuesday morning will owe minutes at recess. Here is a link for you to fill out the form: HEB and Park Field Trip

What will we cover this week in first grade?

Christ Light: The three stories we will learn about this week are A Replacement for Judas is Chosen, The Coming of the Holy Spirit, and Peter's Sermon

Memory Work: Please continue to work with your child on his or her memory treasures at home. If you are missing a memory treasure sheet, you may find it at this link: https://sites.google.com/a/awlcs.org/firstgrade/my-formsAlso, next Tuesday's memory treasure should be "Be faithful even to the point of death and I will give you the crown of life." (Revelation 2:10)

Reading: Until the end of the year, we will spend our reading block of the day working on solidifying reading skills before the students move up to second grade!

Spelling: Please continue to work with your child on the assigned activities for each night and sign the "Words Their Way Weekly Handout Sheet." Thank you!

English: We will review verb tenses and subject-verb agreement.

Science: The students will continue learning about forces and energy.

Social Studies: We will continue exploring different types of landforms.

Math: The students will identify polygons & rectangular prisms, count quarters, and subtract two-digit numbers without regrouping.

Art/PE: Art will be with Mrs. Engel on Tuesday, so I will teach PE on Thursday.

Guest Reader: Our guest reader this week will be Hayden's grandma, Lea Ann Hildebrandt! :)

    Have a wonderful week!

Spanish Club

Spanish club is every Monday after school from 3:15-4:15. While Mr. Fuhrmann helps other students get into their cars at the end of the day, the Spanish club students will wait on the school steps. They will then have a brief recess and snack before beginning the class portion of the meeting. For more information, please contact Mr. Fuhrmann at brett.fuhrmann@awlcs.org.
