“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

Weekly Announcements

  • 8/21-8/25
I hope everyone had a great week and enjoys the weekend ahead. This week was mostly focused on learning procedures and getting to know each other, so here is a detailed look ahead at what is coming next week!

Filling Buckets: Today we read Have You Filled a Bucket Today? This special book reminds us about how we should show kindness to others. Every child was able to choose the colors for his or her bucket and decorate it with stickers. When I see my students doing things that fill someone else's bucket with their words or actions, they will get a bead. This is when they are a bucket filler. However, when they are not being kind to someone with their words or actions, they will have to take a bead out of their own bucket. When that happens, the students know they are being bucket dippers. I am excited to see how this motivates the children to show kindness and love towards each other as they follow Christ's example.

Guest Reader: Our guest reader next week will be Mrs. Luecke! If you or a family member would like to be a guest reader, please remember that you are not limited to Monday @ 1:00. You may arrange a different time and day with me! Here is the link: 1st Grade Guest Readers.

Christ Light: In Christ Light this week, we will learn about two stories: The Creation of Man and Woman and The First Sin. New stories will be read on Monday and Thursday. Activities to go along with those stories will take place on Tuesday and Friday.

Memory Work: Please view the memory treasure schedule on the first grade classroom website to help your child have a great start on his or her memory treasures for next week. Don't forget to sign up for the reminder texts! I attached a PDF you may view to see how to do this. Memory treasures are due on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday of every week.

Math: This week will be a review of counting numbers, number words, and more & less. The plan is to have our first test on Friday. This will allow me to assess where every student is in math. Since we are now following a different math curriculum, it is important that we are able to fill in the gaps to make sure the students are set up to succeed!

Spelling: The students completed the test this week that will allow me to place them into spelling groups. We will begin spelling next week. More information will come prior to Monday, August 28th.

English: We will sing a lot of jingles in English this year, so we will begin doing that this week. The students will learn about the five main parts of a sentence, nouns, and verbs.

Reading: Just like in English, the students will begin singing jingles! We will practice our letter sounds and learn about consonants and vowels.

Science: After learning about engineers and the design process, the students will complete a STEM project in class based on the story of The Three Little Pigs. The students will work in groups and attempt to build a house out of Dots and toothpicks that will withstand the wind of the Big Bad Wolf (Mrs. Patterson's blow dryer)!

Social Studies: Every year in first grade, my students and I get a large puzzle piece that we must decorate with drawings of our favorite things. After we have the opportunity to share what is on our puzzle pieces, we will put our puzzle together and hang it up in our room. This reminds us that even though we all look different and have different likes and dislikes, we are still one team!

Handwriting: The students will learn about the importance of neat handwriting and will practice writing letters and numerals.
