August 2016

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year.  We are excited about the work we have been engaged in to “Prepare our students to be college and career ready for the 21st century.”  All of us here at Phoenix Academy are up to the challenge and want to make this a successful year for your student.

The goal of our school is to provide each student with a challenging and rigorous curriculum appropriate to his/her academic level.  We believe every child can achieve academic success and become a productive well-rounded citizen.  We are a "Character Counts" school.  There is an old African proverb which states, "It takes a village to raise a child."  While we no longer live in villages, this proverb still holds true.  Educating our children  requires that we all work together to ensure their success.

Please read the Student Parent Handbook carefully with your child.  It is a comprehensive, useful tool.  It is our intention to make this handbook a resource to which you can refer throughout the year when you have questions about our programs, policies, and procedures.  We have many exciting programs for our students, as well as opportunities for parents to become involved.

I intend to be visible and accessible; you will often find me out visiting classrooms, on the playground, on the sidewalk, and at dismissal.  If you ever need to speak with me, a teacher, one of our counselors and/or administrators, please do not hesitate to call or come in.  There is a spirit of cooperation and progress at our school that we want to share with you as we embark with our students into the Common Core Standards and beyond.

The school day begins with the first bell ringing at 8:05am, school will start at 8:10am and the student day ends at 2:40pm, except on Early Release Wednesdays, when the student day ends at 1:20 pm. Both cafeterias will be open at 7:25am for breakfast.  Please be aware that anytime a child arrives after 8:10am, they will have to enter through the upper campus office on Thunderbird Road to get a pass.

Students in Kindergarten will receive a letter with additional first day parent/student orientation information. We look forward to working together as partners in learning.

In closing, THANK YOU for the opportunity to work and grow as the principal, I look forward to building a positive relationship with our students and families. As noted above our telephone number is (760) 242-7011.  Please call us with any questions or concerns.  Our office staff hours are 7:30am to 3:45pm Monday through Friday.
