Oxidation Numbers

#2 - Skill: Analyze a chemical formula
Just as we did in class, you must be able to look at a formula and determine the number of atoms it contains for each element.

#3 - Skill: Element oxidation number

Writing formulas and naming compounds

We learned about oxidation numbers. You will need to be able to look at the periodic table and determine the oxidation numbers. Remember we added a small table with the oxidation numbers to your notebook. The most oxidation numbers to understand are for those in the alkali and alkaline earth metals, halogens, and the oxygen (16) group.

#4 - Skill: Write a chemical name when you know the chemical formula
input task

On the quiz you will be given chemical formulas and you must determine the proper name. Remember, we used the flow chart/dichotomous key to help us name the compounds.

Hint: Let's watch the video and record the notes in your notebook. Pause and rewind when needed!

#5 - Skill: Write a chemical formula if given a chemical name

Another task you will be asked to do is write a chemical formula knowing a chemical's name. So, you must be able to read oxidation numbers from the periodic table. See your notes or the video.
