November 14th - December 20th (3rd Six Weeks)

Monday 11/14 & Tuesday 11/15:
  • Begin New Unit: YOU become the writer!
  • Step 1: 
    • Read a range of Rick Riordan's books
    • Analyze themes, structure, characterization, and adaptation techniques  in Rick Riordan's books
    • Compare your notes with your peers
Wednesday 11/16 & Thursday 11/17:
  • YOU become the writer!
  • Step 2:
    • Research and select a myth from a DIFFERENT mythology than one explored by Riordan (so you may not select Greek, Roman, Egyptian, or Norse mythology!)
    • Adapt that myth and write your OWN story, inspired by Riordan's techniques.
Friday 11/18 & Monday 11/28:
  • Adapt your selected myth!
  • Write an updated, revised, contemporary, or alternate version of that myth
    • Rough Draft hard copy due next class

November 19th - 27th:
NO SCHOOL -- THANKSGIVING BREAK!

Tuesday 11/29 & Wednesday 11/30:
  • YOUR Myth -- rough draft due today 
    • Peer Edit & Revise
    • Final Draft due next class
  • Prepare for Topher Bradfield visit (next class) -- write questions

Thursday 12/1 & Friday 12/2:
  • Submit your myth (final draft)
  • Topher Bradfield visit

Monday 12/5 & Tuesday 12/6:
  • Handout & Discuss: Your Movie Scene Project
  • Begin Movie: The Sea of Monsters
    • Take notes on key scenes 

Wednesday 12/7 & Thursday 12/8:
  • Finish Movie
  • Begin drafting your own "movie scene" -- rough draft hard copy due next class

Friday 12/9 & Monday 12/12:
  • Student Scene -- rough drafts due (hard copy)
    • Peer Edit
    • Revise
    • Rehearse

Tuesday 12/13 & Wednesday 12/14:
  • Rehearse & prepare for your scene (performance or recording)


Thursday 12/15 & Friday 12/16:
  • Student Scenes:
    • Rehearse, prepare, and/or film!
  • Submit your scripts (final draft)

Monday 12/19 & Tuesday 12/20:
  • Blue Food Day!
  • Perform / View Student Scenes
  • Plus-Delta Charts

Thursday 10/6 & Friday 10/7:
  • Handout: Corn Maze / Labyrinth Field Trip Permission Form
    • Bring these home to your parents/guardians for signatures and payments!

  • Critic Review -- rough draft due today!
    • Peer Editing Activity

      • (Hard Copy -- typed or hand-written in ink. Typed = double-spaced, hand-written = single-spaced.)
