Math of Games

Students: If you would like to read rules ahead of time, they are posted below.

This is the class for nerdy board games.

In this class, we will use applied mathematics such as game theory, probability and graph theory to learn how to play and analyze European style board games such as Carcassonne, Power Grid and Small World. In the last six weeks of the course, students will design their own board game or card game.

Student grades will be 100% based upon in-class small group presentations about the games that they play. They will typically be asked to explain how the game they just played relates to the mathematical concept of study.

If you would like to contribute to the class, please send small denomination gift cards for Great Hall Games on North Lamar at 2222, just south of Half Price Books. Gift cards will be used to purchase games of the students' choosing, by vote.
