The first group of 16 ACSS participants successfully completed the first term at Augustana College! In BIOL150, they were introduced to Johnna Adams of Augustana's Internship Office and identified strategies for developing a competitive resume'; they practiced using the Inquiry Wheel as a modified approach to the scientific process; and they studied methods for enhancing their already strong study skills. It is a wonderful group of First Year and transfer students!!  Six of the ACSS participants will continue working with Dr. Scott during the winter term by participating in her Meiothermus ruber research project.  Another member of the group begins a research experience with Dr. Jose Boquin of the Chemistry Department.  Two ACSS participants found positions with the Scribe American program, which involves working with local doctors during their medical rounds.

At the writing of this post, nearly 140 prospective First Year students completed the ACSS Program application for its inaugural year.  We are very excited about this fantastic show of interest.  It is a very strong group of applicants and competition was keen.  Future career goals of the applicants range from biology, healthcare fields, mathematics, physics and engineering, biochemistry, geology, chemistry and environmental studies fields. The Scholarship Committee continues to evaluate applicants, and will do so until all scholarships have been awarded and confirmed.
Sincerely,
