It is with great sadness that Athletics ACT and the Canberra athletics community hear of the passing of our young athlete, Dainere Anthoney on 24 June 2013. Dainere was well known for her throwing events at the track, encouraged by Louise Ellery and Kath Proudfoot and supported by our officials and volunteers who enjoyed watch her throw.

Dainere was passionate to educate the wider public on childhood brain tumour and the effects it had on children and families. She published two books and tirelessly raised funds for ‘The Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation Brain Tumour Research Fund’. Her feelings, thoughts and comments were regularly added to her blog,  giving so many insight into her journey and struggle, but through all this Dainere always smiled a rainbow.

Jarrett Anthoney is running the City2Surf in August and continues to raise funds for the Foundation. To assist Jarrett now after his little sister is gone please consider a donation via his Hero page; Jarrett is also a champion for the cause.

Dainere's funeral will be held on Tuesday 2nd July at 10.30am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Amaroo; followed by burial at Gungahlin Cemetery and a celebration wake at The Canberra Racecourse.
