Lab Members

Sree Kanthaswamy obtained his B.S.(Honors) and MPhil in Genetics at the University of Malaya, Malaysia. He holds a PhD in Genetics from U.C. Davis, and did his postdoctoral research at the University of Iowa - Carver College of Medicine. Prior to joining ASU, he was a Full Adjunct Professor at U.C. Davis and a visiting Associate Professor at California State University, Sacramento.

Dr. Kanthaswamy's expertise is in population, forensic and conservation genetics. His research on primates is centered on the investigation of anthropogenic and natural forces which shape and structure genetic variation of natural and captive animal populations.  His forensic science research is based on trace analyses of human and animal blood, saliva and hair collected at crime scenes or from civil cases for DNA-typing.

To further animal forensic science and provide educational opportunities for students, his research aims to establish species-specific genetic markers for accurate and precise identification and to enhance our population genetics database for each species. He also provides expert witness testimony on animal/veterinary forensic DNA analysis and casework review. His focus on the cellular/molecular aspects of conservation biology, biodiversity protection and environmental sustainability is fueled by his experience in wetland protection and genetic management. He constantly integrates policy issues into his research and community services and incorporates new research findings from his laboratory into his teaching.

Bobby is pursuing his PhD in Evolutionary Genetics, and manages the lab. He received his B.S. in Genetics at U.C. Davis, and worked as a human and primate genetics researcher at their Dept. of Anthropology. His research interests revolve around the use of evolutionary genetics to examine human/primate history and health. He also works on developing resources for forensic DNA analysis.
