 About Grażyna

She is an international specialist in the physics of emission lines emitted by nebulae in our galaxy and in distant galaxies. Her research has resulted in important contributions to many fields of Astronomy: the determination of chemical abundances in ionized nebulae, the effect of dust in these nebulae, the chemical enrichment of the Universe, the role of retired galaxies in comparison with active galaxies, among many others.

She received her PhD in France in 1978 and joined the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS, France) in 1979, where she is now an emeritus researcher. Grażyna has around 300 publications, out of which 160 are published in refereed journals, and around 7000 citations. She has organized around a dozen international conferences and workshops and is an active member of the IAU Division H, Interstellar Matter and Local Universe.

Grażyna has many collaborators in France, Brazil, Mexico, USA, and Poland.  Over the past 20 years, she has maintained a fruitful collaboration with Mexican researchers at the Instituto de Astronomía of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), the Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica, Óptica y Electrónica (INAOE), and the Instituto de Radioastronomía y Astrofísica (IRyA). For that reason, Mexico has been chosen as the ideal place to organize a conference to recognize her contributions to Astronomy during her scientific career
