Katrinka Jackson

Graduating Class of 1994

Katrinka Jackson left her mark as an all-around talent during her days at Astoria High School. Be it running, jumping, throwing or just being in the classroom, she set high standards during her four years. Those marks have led her to be inducted into the AHS Athletic Hall of Fame.

In the fall, Katrinka headed to the trails of Coffenbury Lake as a member of the cross country team. She lettered all four years and was a member of two teams able to qualify for state her freshman and sophomore years. Katrinka “chipped” in to back to back top seven teams while individually placing 88th as a frosh and 75th as a sophomore at the State Championships.

In the Spring is where Katrinka really left her mark and her name in the AHS track record books. She also lettered all four years in track and was named MVP during the 1992, 1993 and 1994 seasons by her teammates. At the end of her four years, she had the school record in the high jump and triple jump!

At the district meet, Katrinka placed first all four years in the 100m-high hurdles. In her junior year, she also added district titles in the 300-meter low hurdles, shot put and high jump. Then, as a senior, repeated as District Champion in the shot put and 300-meter low hurdles. In all, she qualified for the State Meet in 12 events out a of possible 16 in her high school career!!!

At the state meet, Katrinka placed 4th in the 100-meter high hurdles as a freshman and 2nd as a sophomore. Her junior year, she placed 2nd in the high jump, 5th in the 300-meter low hurdles and 8th in the 100-meter high hurdles. Finally, her senior year, she placed 5th in the high jump and 300-meter low hurdles and 2nd in the 100-meter high hurdles.

Katrinka also found time in the winter to be a four year member of Astoria High School’s Dance Team “Pizazz” which earned two state title in 1991 and 1993. She was also a member of the French Club and graduated with honors with a 3.8 G.P.A.

After graduation, Katrinka went to Stanford University where she was a member of the Cardinal track team. She qualified all four years for the Pac 10 championship meet. She had high places of 3rd in the heptathlon as a junior, 6th in the shot put as a senior and 9th in the high jump as a sophomore. At the finish of her Stanford career, she was 7th all-time in the shot put and 4th all-time in the heptathlon in school history.

Next, Katrinka found a liking to the sport of rugby and found herself competing for the USA Women’s National Team in matches around the world. She competed in matches in places such as New Zealand, Fiji, Spain, Scotland and Hong Kong.
