Jeremy Matlock

Graduating Class of 1993

The individual, team awards and honors earned by Jeremy Matlock are impressive. They range from All-Cowapa League in swimming, to state champion in track, to All-American in cross country. In swimming, Jeremy won All-League honors in 1991 for the 500 meter freestyle.

To this date, Jeremy still holds the school 3000 meter record of 8.38.8, set when he placed second in the 1993 state championship track meet. In the same meet, he won the 1500 meter state championship in 3:56.58. Still, to this date, the second fastest time ever run by a Fisherman distance runner. In 1993 at the league district championships, Jeremy won both the 1500 and 3000 meters and was voted Most Valuable by his teammates. He earned All-League and All-State honors in all of these races.

In cross country, Jeremy helped lead the Fishermen to state championships in 1990 and 1992 and a second place finish in 1991. Individually, he was All Cowapa League all three years, and was district champion in 1992. At the State Championships, he ran ninth, fourth and third to capture All-State honors. He was voted Most Inspirational by his teammates in 1992.

In Junior Olympic competition, Jeremy won All-American Honors in 1990 and again in 1992 when he raced to sixth place out of 220 runners at the National Cross Country Championships in Alabama.

After graduation, Jeremy would win All-District honors at Linfield College, becoming the Wildcat’s fastest freshman cross country runner in school history (to that date) and competed in the National Championships.
