Jeff Canessa

Graduating Class of 1990

During Jeff’s four years on the Astoria High School Varsity Boys Golf Team, he and his teammates had tremendous success!

While Jeff was earning his four letters as a Fisherman, the golf team had the following placements at the OSAA State Tournament: 1987 – 4th, 1988 – 4th, 1989 – 4th, and in 1990 – 2nd. These finishes were preceded by winning the Cowapa League for each of those years. Jeff, and his teammates, lost only one league match during his high school playing days.

Individually, Jeff competed in the State Golf Tournament every year and earned an All-State award during his junior year, when he finished 4th. He was the District 1-4A Champion during his senior year and earned First-Team All-League during his junior and senior years. When it came to team awards, Jeff was selected by his teammates as the team’s Most Valuable Player in 1989 and 1990.

After high school, Jeff competed on the inter-collegiate level at Oregon State University, where he played two years for the Beavers. He has also won the prestigious Oregon Coast Invitational twice, in 2007 and 2009. In 2015, he won the Pacific Northwest Pro-Amateur Championship where he was paired with the assistant golf professional from the Astoria Golf & Country Club.
