Emily Fisher-Falleur
Graduating Class of 1992
Emily Fisher came “off the curve” in the 1991 Oregon State track championships with a lead of less than one foot over the second place competitor. “Lady M” as she was known, looked opportunity “right in the eye” and chose to make it a contest of will power. Her sprinting career seemed marked by close races and time after time she displayed the character to squeeze every inch out of her race, no matter what place she finished. The determination to give 100% every step of the race, kept her one foot lead all the way to the finish line and the title of State 200 meter champion. Earlier in the day, she placed second in the 100 meters to achieve All-State recognition in both races.
The 200 meters “capped” her state meet performances in which she placed fifth as part of Astoria’s 400 meter relay in 1989. In the 1990 state meet she raced in the 200 meters, 400 meters and the 1600 meter relay.
During her four year varsity track career she was a model of consistency, four times Emily was a Cowapa league district champion. Her district championship records are: 1989- 200 meters- 2nd place, 400 meters- 3rd place, 1600 meter relay- 2nd place 1990- 200 meters- district champion, 400 meters- district champion, 1600 meter relay- 2nd place, 400 meter relay- 3rd place 1991- 100 meters- district champion, 200 meters- district champion Emily’s teammates voted her their most valuable performer in 1989, 1991 and 1992. She was also selected most inspirational in 1990. Her senior season (1992) was cut short by an injury. To this date (2008) Emily still holds the second fastest 100 meters (12.3) and the second fastest 200 meters (26.17) ever run by an Astoria Fisherette.
Emily was an all around athlete. She was a varsity member of the volleyball team her junior and senior years. In 1991 the team was selected as the OSAA volleyball team of the year and in 1992 they qualified for the state tournament. Emily achieved league honorable mention in 1991.
Emily played varsity basketball her junior and senior years. In 1991 the team placed second in the league and in 1992 the Fisherettes were Cowapa league champions with Emily being voted the team’s most valuable performer. She was also selected as a league all star.
At the 1991 state basketball tournament, the Fisherettes were consolation champions. In 1992 they lost in the fourth place semi finals.
Emily was the “complete package”. She achieved Cowapa league scholar athlete distinction in 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992. She also was named Cowapa league all state scholar athlete in track for 1989, 1990, 1991 and in basketball for 1992. Emily was an Oregon scholar athlete in 1991.
