Darren Palmberg

Graduating Class of 1990

This three-sport athlete left his mark while competing for Astoria High School. Darren was a varsity member of the golf, basketball, and soccer teams.

Darren had the most success at AHS. as a key player on the boy’s golf team. While he represented the Fishermen during three of his four years on the links, they had an amazing run of finishing 4th at state in 1988, and 1989, and then in 1990, Astoria earned a 2nd Place trophy. They were the district champions each of those years, and as a team, they only dropped one Cowapa League match over that span.

Darren earned All-State recognition during his junior and senior years, where he finished in a tie for 8th in 1989, and 5th in 1990. As a sophomore, he finished in a tie for 23rd. He also earned “All-District” awards during his junior and senior years.

On the basketball court, Darren had good success as well. In 1989, he and his teammates were Cowapa League Champions, and then they went on to earn a 4th place state trophy. In his senior year, the team took 2nd Place in the league, and Darren earned Cowapa League “Honorable Mention”, and he was the “MVP” of a Pre-Season Tournament.

Soccer made its debut as a varsity sport at AHS during Darren’s junior year. He represented the Fishermen interscholastically during both his junior and senior year.

Not only did he perform well in athletics, Darren was a tremendous student. He earned honor roll distinction during each of his years at Astoria High School. He graduated with a 3.86 G.P.A. Darren was also a member in good standing of the “A” Lettermen Club.
