Whether on the court or softball diamond, Carly Hogan took care of business. As a nine varsity athletic letter award recipient, Carly excelled as a 3-sport student-athlete, always putting her team above self. She led by example and exemplified the term “student-athlete." Graduating with a 3.75 G.P.A, Carly led in the classroom and in athletics. She was a member of the Zephyrus staff, participated in student body activities and took college English courses at Clatsop Community College her senior year. Carly was also a member of the award winning Dance Team.
As a volleyball participant, Carly didn’t begin playing varsity until her junior year, but immediately made an impact. She was All-League her junior and senior years and led the Lady Fishermen in kills and blocks. Carly was also nominated by her teammates as Most Valuable Player. Her team won the league championship her senior year and also qualified for the state tournament both years.
Basketball season also brought great success for Hogan. Lettering three seasons, she led the Fishermen in scoring and rebounding, named Most Valuable by her teammates, earned All-League honors and claimed a position on the All-Tournament team her senior year when the team captured the 1991 Consolation trophy after the girls had reached the tournament three years in a row. At the time, Carly also established a new state free-throw record.
Spring brought softball where Carly played four seasons of varsity ball. Between her pitching expertise and playing first base, she led the Lady Fishermen in batting average, home runs and RBI’s. She again received recognition from her teammates as Most Valuable and All-League honors from coaches.
Carly’s basketball success did not end when she graduated from Astoria High School. She attended the University of Portland where she earning a Full-Ride Division 1 scholarship to play basketball for the Pilots. Her accomplishments continued and in 1993, she was named Most Inspirational, 1994 was a starting forward and participated in the NCAA tournament in 1994 and 1995. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree, then attended University of Oregon to attain her Masters’ in Business Administration (MBA). While at U of O, Carly entered the teaching ranks and taught co-ed basketball and volleyball courses as a Graduate Teaching Fellowship recipient. Carly continued at the University of Oregon and earned her law degree.
At the time of her induction into the Astoria High School Athletic Hall of Fame, Carly is Director of Marketing and Client Services with the Goldstreet Design Agency and is on the faculty of the University of Phoenix with their online education program. She resides in Bend, Oregon with her husband, Eric Carmichael and children, Hogan and Pearson.
