Aundi Kustura

Graduating Class of 2001

You sensed something was on the horizon when the high school athletic community was talking about a young athlete when she was still in elementary school! Aundi’s reputation well preceded her entry into high school. At the completion of her four years at Astoria High School, she had definitely left her mark. She earned ten varsity letters (Four in basketball, four in track, and two in volleyball). She was a naturally gifted athlete who led with her physical talent but also her big heart. Aundi was a tremendous competitor who dealt with pressure with the poise of someone much older.

On the basketball court of the “Brickhouse”, Aundi was a four-year starter under Coach Tighe Davis (9, 10,11th grades and Mark Fick her senior year. She was the undeniable leader of these teams. Her awards, records and stats are impressive. She was first team “All-State” during her senior year and Honorable Mention in the year prior. She was the league’s MVP as a senior, and earned All-League during the three previous years. She was team captain all four years, as well as Most Inspirational every year (minus her freshman season). She finished her high school career as the “All-Time A.H.S. Leading Scorer” with 1136 points! Aundi led her team to the Cowapa League title in her sophomore through senior seasons. Behind her inspiration, Aundi and her teammates went to the state tournament every year, finishing fifth, sixth, and twice tied for eighth place.

In volleyball, Aundi played all four years. During her two years on varsity, Aundi and her teammates qualified both years for the State Playoffs. Aundi was a defensive digging and serving machine during her junior year, and then she “ran the show” as a senior Setter. She lead the team to a 9-3 Cowapa League (second place) record in her final year. She was later voted as the team’s “Most Inspirational” player and earned “Honorable Mention” in the Cowapa League.

As for high school clubs and activities, Aundi was very dedicated and “gave-back” to the school and community: Sophomore Class President, Class Representative as a Junior, Cadet Teacher, (one semester), the Natural Helpers Club all four years, Port City Singers, Business Leaders of Tomorrow (senior year), and worked at the Clatsop Christian Center all throughout high school.

After graduation, Aundi went on to compete inter-collegiately on Pacific Lutheran University’s basketball team. Her stats are very impressive: She competed all four year and with the exception of her freshman year, she was the team captain each year. At Pacific Lutheran University, at the time of her graduation she held all-time records for career field goal attempts - seventh; career three point field goal percentage - third; free throw percentage in a season - third. Her team won their conference and nationally finished tied for fifth during her freshman season. Voted second team All-Conference and Most Inspirational as a junior and in her final year, she was second team All-Conference, Most Inspirational, Best Defensive Player, and recipient of the Pacific Lutheran University “Female Athlete of the Year Award” as a senior.

Aundi’s greatest athletic legacy will be based around her basketball exploits. She will go down as one of the best ball-handlers, competitors, and leaders to ever to compete in the “Brickhouse”! She was an amazing athlete with a tremendous attitude!!
