Andy Marincovich

Graduating Class of 1982

Andrew Marincovich was a three sport letterman at Astoria High School. Marincovich earned varsity letters in Cross Country and Track, but it was on the basketball court where he really left his mark earning two varsity letters. Andy’s junior year was the first year he made Coach Goin’s varsity team. Andy made an instant impact averaging 11.5 points per game. He helped the Fishermen win the Cowapa League title and earn a trip to the state tournament. Andy’s play during the year made the league coaches appreciate his value to his team and he was named to the Cowapa All-League team.

Marincovich’s senior year came with much excitement for the faithful Astoria fans. Anticipation was high as the team returned Andy and All-League player Paul Tadei. The team did not disappoint as Marincovich averaged 15.6 points per game leading the Fishermen to another Cowapa League Championship and a return trip to the state tournament.

The post season awards rolled in for Marincovich. He was again named to the Cowapa All-League team. His outstanding play at the state tournament earned him a spot on the 2nd team All-Tournament Team. He received the Gordon Scott Award as the Most Valuable Player on the basketball team for the season. Andy was also named to the 4th team All-State by the Oregon Journal.

Andy was much involved during his years at Astoria High. He was a three year member of both the Stage and Symphonic Band and a member of National Honor Society. He was Student Body President for the 1981-82 school year.

After high school, Andy attended Willamette University and played one season on the JV basketball team. He currently resides in Seaside, Oregon and works as a carpenter and commercial fisherman.
