1990 Cross Country

1990 Cross Country

State Champions

In the Fall of 1990, Astoria High School would win it’s first state Cross Country state title under the leadership of veteran coach, Carl Dominey.

With one of the youngest and least experienced teams in the field, the Fishermen showed that their youth would not be a problem, as they ran to a 49 point victory over their nearest foe, in claiming the first cross country title for the local high school.

Sophomores Josh Long and Jeremy Matlock finished second and fourth in the 125 man field. Scott Atwood, a junior was seventh overall. Ian Kruger, a senior, and Dusty Atwood, a freshman, placed 14th and 51st respectively, to accout for the low Astoria scoring. Junior Kevin Goin and sophomore Peter Jackson rounded out the roster for the state champions. At the end of the season, Josh Long was named the team’s Most Valuable runner and the Most Inspirational award went to Ian Kruger.
