1990 Boy's Golf

When it comes to success of high school golf teams in Oregon, this team was a very impressive group. This team, coached by Miles Brenden, was made up of the following players: Jeff Canessa (’90), Steve Davis (’90), Darren Palmberg (’90), Timber Stevens (’90), and Jason Palmberg (’92).

Over the four years that the seniors on this team competed for the Fishermen, they only had one loss in the Cowapa League. They were district champions every year (except during their freshmen year…where they lost in a “team play-off” by one stroke). What is most impressive is that they earned four OSAA state golf tournament trophies. At state, the teams earned these placements: 4th Place in 1987, 1988, and 1989, and then second place in their senior year-1990.

Individually, Jeff earned four varsity letters and competed in the state tournament” every year. He earned an All-State award during his junior year when he finished 4th . He was the “District 1-4A Champion” during his senior year, and earned First-Team All-League during his junior and senior years. Jeff was also selected by his teammates as the team’s Most Valuable Player in 1989 and 1990.

Darren competed at the state tournament during his sophomore through senior seasons. He earned All-State honors during his junior and senior years. He finished 8th in 1989 and 5th in 1990. He also earned All-District awards during both of those years.

Timber also competed at the State Tournament three times out of his four years. He earned All-League and All-District honors in 1989 and 1990. He was also voted Most Inspirational by his teammates during his senior season.

Steve earned two Varsity Letters while playing for the Fishermen. He also competed with his teammates at state during his junior and senior seasons.

Jason joined this group during his freshman year. He was a four-time letter winner and competed at state in 1989 and 1990. During his senior year, he earned All-League recognition and was selected as one of the team’s Most Valuable Players.
