Collection Maintenance

Weeding of library materials is essential for the maintenance of an efficient, up-to-date, and vital collection that meets the needs of the ASIJ community and the curriculum.

Materials are weeded by the librarians according to the following criteria:  educational significance

  • contribution the subject matter makes to the curriculum and to the interests of the students
  • validity, currency, and appropriateness of material
  • timeliness or permanence
  • condition

Materials are disposed of by:

  • giving them to faculty or students for individual use
  • donating them to other libraries or organizations
  • book sales
  • recycling

If none of the above apply, the materials may be thrown out.
