Welcome to preschool!

My name is Mrs. Longo and we do our fun and learning at the beginning of the primary wing in Room 11. This is my ninth year teaching preschool at Ashford School.  I just completed work towards a Masters Degree in Special Education.  Some of my favorite preschool activities include making new play dough, puzzles, crafts, reading, and singing songs.  When I am not teaching I enjoy reading, scrap-booking, and spending time with my family.  I have three young children of my own that keep me very busy!  I am looking forward to meeting all of my new preschoolers and getting to know their families.  You can reach me at school by calling 860-429-6419 or by email: jadeylongo@ashfordct.org.  I check my email daily and will respond as soon as possible (please note that it is most often after school or in the evenings as I do not have time while the children are in the classroom to check and respond to emails).  My preschool pages are designed to provide information about our preschool program and about preschool development and expectations.  I will also keep parents and families updated by sending home a weekly newsletter in the daily folders.

At the Ashford Preschool Program, parents/guardians, teachers and children

work together to create a quality environment for each child and family.

We view preschool children as active learners who gain knowledge and skills

through play and we respect individual strengths, needs, abilities, and

learning styles.

Your child comes to school knowing many things and being able to do many

things. You are your child’s first and most important teacher and already

you have taught your child a great deal. With your help, we will build a good

beginning in school.

The early years of your child’s life are the most important. Just as your

child sat and crawled before he/she walked, your child must learn to use

their hands, eyes, and ears to play before he/she can read and write. One

important thing you can do to prepare your child for school each day is

provide a healthy breakfast and/or lunch.

Important thinking and decision making goes on when a child plays. In

Preschool, your child will have many opportunities to engage in activities

which are fun, creative and stimulating.

These are some of the things we will do in Preschool:

* Sing * Science Experiments * Make Friends

* Listen to stories * Paint * Cook

* Cut and glue * Cooperate * Act out Stories

* Play in sand * Do puzzles and blocks * Dress up

* Respect ourselves * Respect others * Play in water
