Live curious and go beyond by trying, making mistakes and learning from them!

I think that it is important to give it a try no matter how hard something could seem. When we are practicing we are learning.
In PK there are many opportunities to learn through technology and target different learning styles.
Our young students are exposed to the use of SMARTboards, iPads, Skype sessions with Pen pals, a\Authors and people around the world.

Areas of expertise: SMARTboard, Collaboration tools.  LMS

Are you ready to disrupt learning?

Yesterday I watched a TedTalk video about Education. It helped me understand the importance of teachers being active learners and encouraging our students in their own learning.
It is important that teachers help students take part on their own learning to get ownership. Our students need to be interested, engaged and motivated so they can understand and apply what they are learning.  How do we as teachers help accomplish this? By creating a safe learning  environment where our students can choose what they want to learn, where they can think and come up with their own questions, by encouraging them to take risks and make decisions, and most of by making learning fun and interesting for all our students.

Next steps in blended learning

posted May 17, 2016, 8:13 PM by Rocio Suarez   [ updated May 17, 2016, 9:33 PM ]

I have been recording some videos with my students (about deferent topics: counting, being respectful, being responsible , etc) and I posted them on my Haiku page.  The moms have been giving us feedback about their children wanting to watch those videos frequently.  They not only enjoy making the videos but also use them for practicing at home.
I have been wondering about trying kahoot with my 5 year old students.  I think that it could be a good way to review certain topics and to encourage them to work together and have fun.

My blend

My blend looks like exposing my students to different and challenging experiences that lead them to a better learning and in a fun way!
Communicating with people all around the world using videos and QRcodes.

I encourage my students to write for a purpose! They enjoy being able not only to write but also to use technology to communicate with Penpals around the world using videos and QRCodes.

They also are exposed to read alouds embedded in QRCodes  and well as videos that support their learning (letter, shapes and numbers).  They can scan those QRcodes  during centers.

My students work at centers and use the ipads to take pictures of something they've accomplished or are proud of and share it with the rest of the class and even with parents (drawings, buildings, puzzles, etc).

Students use go for morning meetings, interactive smart board activities and games

We use ipads to record our children retelling stories so they can watch them later and learn from them.

ASFM Tech Tuesdays

At ASFM every Tuesday all staff has meetings for professional growth.  We get together to enrich ourselves with new learning and to share about what has been happening at other grade levels and at our school.
Last Tuesday our meeting was about team reflections on blended learning and how technology is working at all grade levels.  We needed to share our challenges, successes and next steps about blended learning and technology  and we had to share it with all staff in only 1 minute. We got together by teams and  reflected on all the difficulties we have been facing, ways to solve them and everything we were able to achieve.  Then we decided to make a video to share our findings.
We used the app chatterbox that was  new to me and was really easy to use. We added music and chose characters to explain all the information.  Then we used Imovie to create the video and uploaded it to youtube.
We  created this funny video because we believe in learning through visuals, music and in a fun way.

In PK we are learning about ways to measure things.  Our students are using UNIFIX cubes to measure and are really interested about it.  They go around the classroom measuring everything!
