Applied Technology Teacher

Begich Middle School

Middle School Applied Technology is a part of the Anchorage School District's Career and Technology Education Department.  Through hands-on activities, the students are exposed to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education in addition to career awareness and employability skills.  Activities include: aviation, design process, engineering, CAD and 3D modeling, architecture, construction, transportation, and many others.  My hope is that students will discover an area of interest that they would like to further pursue in high school and beyond, while also walking out of the class with a basic understanding of the operation of many power tools.

In my classroom, I aim to mold self-motivated students that problem-solve and are critical thinkers and collaborators.

"...save the other half of yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it is still there. So get out there and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, encounter the grizz, climb the mountains. Run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, that lovely, mysterious and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to your body, the body active a

nd alive…"
