This unit was designed using the three stages of Understanding by Design

This life science unit for lower elementary students explores animal needs. Through inquiry-based activities the students will learn about animals’ basic needs for survival. Students will research and observe animals’ external features and describe how these help them to survive. Students will design and create a habitat for an animal that provides for its basic needs. Throughout the unit, students will come to understand that plants and animals depend on each other to survive.
