Elizabeta with Gold Burkha and Moustache Glasses, Acrylic on canvas, by Penny Tristram, UK - Penny's Work
My passion is for the mechanics and politics of depicting the human figure. Degree-qualified in drawing, I have studied art anatomy, with a particular focus on understanding the face and head via Da Vinci's Golden Ratio. I continue to draw from life, and to develop portraits that, I hope, show something of the beauty and interest that I perceive in each sitter.
My works focus on identity, particularly in relation to gender. Masked and disguised faces suggest mixed-up gender roles and the need to create a metaphorical mask in this digitally connected age when everything may be public.
