Normandie Luscher - Artist Statement

My work is inspired by several different themes, but one that I love to integrate into my work is that of folk and naive strokes, shapes and figures. I think I love the awkward and quirkiness because it shows beauty in a unique way. There is one general perception of beauty that is so often pushed in the media, but when we only focus on one body type and one personality, there is so much soul that we lose. In addition to presenting beauty in an atypical way, I also love relating my art to the everyday artists that created folk art throughout history. They captured everyday moments and bring a feeling of nostalgia that is inspiring. I seek to incorporate those moments into my work as well as I find that it is those moments that hold a sort of sacredness to them.
