Today we finished the model we started yesterday. We also read about models and systems.
Today's lesson focused on models. We discussed how scale applies to models, and how models can help us better understand our world. Then we created a scale model showing the distance of the planets from the sun.
Today we started a new science unit titled "Earth and Space Systems". We discussed systems and parts of systems, and how knowing about systems can help us better understand our world.
Today students performed their presentations and explained their Broadsides (Billboards).
Students worked in cooperative groups to create a Broadside (Billboard) to showcase their assigned colony. They will present the finished Broadside with jingles, slogans, and lively presentations.
We started the next chapter which is about three early settlements, Roanoke, Jamestown, and Plymouth. Students read to learn about the people in those settlements and then performed an "act-out" of characters in pictures from the settlements.
Today we finished performing the plays and reviewed for tomorrow's test.
Today students are in small groups, preparing to present a play. Play presentations will begin today and continue tomorrow.
Today students began to identify and analyze key facts about eight European explorers who led expeditions to the New World. In pairs, they researched one explorer to present on a matrix that will be used later for a jeopardy type game. Once the game is finished, students will complete a notes sheet about the information they learned.
Today students read chapter 5, focusing on defining the vocabulary.
