Behavior Support Resources

September 21, 2017 Email Content from Dr. Sheila Smith
Welcome! I know we are all looking forward to a great 2017-2018 school year. We are working diligently to align Behavior Support Specialists with the ADE emphasis on developing local capacity (Training and Coaching Model). Our updated behavior support service delivery model will both support improvement as well as build capacity of LEAs to implement, scale up and sustain evidence-based practices. We are also excited about this new model because it will allow us to further serve administrators, teachers and other school staff. Previously, our services were limited to special education. With a broader model, we can now help your district with all behavior concerns through professional development and on-site coaching.

The focus of the 2017-2018 school year is to provide support through evidence-based training related to Tier II behavior concerns. We will begin by offering several sessions throughout the school year called our "Essentials" trainings. These will be foundational behavior trainings that will prepare participants for Tier II trainings as well as for the development of Behavior Support Teams. These trainings provide opportunities for on-site coaching and follow-up to assist with intervention implementation.

Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, we will offer a series of Train-the-Trainer modules to district established Behavior Support Teams. This series will address the fundamentals of behavior as well as interventions specific to Tier II or Tier III behaviors. Behavior Support Teams may include administrators, general education teachers, special education teachers, speech language therapists, school counselors, school psychology specialists or other school staff. More information will be released in the spring of 2018 regarding this process. We highly encourage participation at the "Essentials" trainings this year to help prepare your teams.

We are very excited to offer this opportunity to our districts. The trainings offered through December are attached. We will be releasing the January-May schedule in November. Please contact me at (501) 289-0303 or shelia.smith@archford.org if you would like to further discuss specific plans, concerns or questions for your district.

Thanks
Shelia Smith
