Dear Coach Wood-I needed to wait a couple of days after the track
banquet before writing this email. I was so touched by the emotion that
was so evident on Sunday, especially among the seniors. Sunday was the
sixth AQ track banquet that I've attended. The team spirit that existed
during Cameron's freshman year seems very small compared to what I
evidenced this year. The respect, trust and love that exists between
these team members is really special. Your coaching staff deserves a
great deal of credit for working so hard to help create this type of
atmosphere. It's an uncommon and pretty wonderful thing to see.
I especially want to thank you for the opportunities you provided to
both Cameron and Lauren. I know that they each really value their track
experiences, and especially the many friendships that they made. Both
Cameron and Lauren improved as athletes during their time at AQ. Even
more important were the gains they made in maturity, confidence,
determination and leadership. Their experiences in track have really
influenced the adults they have become.
Most especially, I want to thank you and all of the AQ track coaches for
supporting Lauren this year. It wasn't pretty or easy to watch her
train and compete over the winter and spring but it was important to her
to finish this track season to the best of her ability. Your
willingness to allow her to finish what she started allowed her
disappointment in her physical performances to be outweighed by the
knowledge that she had truly given all she had to her season. Watching
her team of "catchers" on the track at each meet often had me near
tears. Thank you for creating a team where athletes looked for
