AP Physics 2
AP Physics 2 is a college level course delivered in high school. It requires only algebra and geometry skills, but more importantly, critical thinking and logical problem solving. AP Physics 2 continues the expectation that students will be able to apply basic Physics principles properly to analyze unfamiliar situations or to overcome misconceptions about familiar situations. It is expected that students can give well reasoned, coherent paragraph length responses to any problem they can solve mathematically.
AP Physics 2 studies motion of fluids, transformation of energy (thermodynamics), electromagnetism, optics, and briefly covers modern Physics topics of relativity, quantum mechanics, and nuclear Physics. We continue cultivating skills in experimental design, model development, graphical analysis, written expression and support of claims, and algebraic manipulation.
Students who successfully score a 3 or better on the AP exam in May will be eligible to receive credit for the course at many colleges and universities. Even those that do not receive the type of credit they expect to need can benefit from earlier registration times (as they will be classified as sophomores earlier) and a higher grade in their related courses for due to their foundation this year. More importantly, students the prepare for the AP exam learn skills that prepare them for university learning and solving future unfamiliar problems in life.
