“A child-centered community of learners”

This year at Monument, we continue to focus on our goals of School Effectiveness and Professional Learning. Our plan includes relevant and rigorous goals in the areas of parent involvement, assessment, and instructional planning, as well as a student achievement goal focusing on all second graders in 2018 to be 90% proficient or higher in reading, mathematics, behavior and social domains.

Our professional staff continues the effective work of multi-tiered student supports (MTSS) in academic, behavior and social areas. We are working to increase proficiency with core instruction and promote flexible groupings of students resulting in increased achievement of all students. Our 2015 Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) K-5 local assessment demonstrated yearly growth ranging from 5-14% in the areas of mathematics and reading. The Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium (SBAC) K-3 State assessment showed 65-75% proficient or above in English Language Arts (ELA) and 60-75% proficient or above in Mathematics. Our general educators, special educators, interventionists and related service providers continue to collaborate and meet regularly to enhance and unify instructional planning, curricula, and assessments for all students.

We continue to support learning through traditional and non-traditional education settings with varied opportunities for student learning with our Partners in Reading, After-school programming, Guest Enrichment programs, Field trips, Summer programming and student performances showcasing the arts and academics.

The continued success of this wide variety of dynamic programming is made available through the support of the Monument School Community, Bennington School District citizens and Board members, Adults Interested in Monument (AIM) parent group as well as staff and parents who spend countless hours working, organizing, volunteering and supporting. A common thread within all our efforts at Monument continues to be the participation of parents and families in their child’s educational experience. We continue to enhance communication between school and families and have created a dynamic schedule of exciting and informative School Community events to support this partnership. Keep updated on our School Community events at monument.apps.svsu.org, Monument Elementary School on Facebook and Twitter @MonumentES.

It is my pleasure to guide and work alongside a highly motivated and dedicated group of professionals. We will continue to pursue academic success by providing a safe, supportive, nurturing environment for students and a professionally inspiring learning environment for adults.

Respectfully submitted,

Donna L. Cauley
