GRADE TWO - CELEBRATING THE 100TH DAY OF SCHOOL

THROUGH GIVING!!

This year in honor of our 100th day of school (so far, with no snow days, it is on target to be Monday February 6th –) we have planned something very special!

The 100th day is indeed an important educational milestone for all of the second graders.   We also have learned through our studying of different cultural celebrations and family traditions, that helping those in need is an equally important part of the celebration.

We have decided that we would like to collect 100+ items to donate to the Hockanum Valley Community Council, Inc. Food Pantry in Vernon, Connecticut.

This non-profit agency serves people of need right here in and around our own community.  Winter is a difficult time for many people and helping collect food donations for the pantry will certainly help many families in our community.

The HVCC Pantry is always in need of the following:

Non-perishable food items, such as peanut butter, jelly, canned tuna, pasta and sauce, cereal, boxes of macaroni and cheese, canned spaghetti or ravioli, canned beans, canned or dry soup, canned vegetables, and canned fruit.  They also are in needs of peanut free kid’s snacks, condiments, diapers, pet food, quick bread mixes, canned fruit, juice boxes and pancake mix.

·        Please note that donations should be in cans, boxes, plastic containers, or other sealed packages. We also ask that you check the expiration date of your donations. We cannot accept any items past their expiration date.

Grade two will count the total of all items we collect.  The HVCC will come to Eli Terry and pick up the donation at the end of our collection period.

We know that doing something special during the cold of winter will warm our hearts and the hearts of those in need.  Let’s work together to reach 100+ items.  The collection will begin on January 10th and will conclude on February 6th!

Sincerely,

Grade Two Teachers and Students!
