Lots of papers were sent home again today.

1. Chapter 1 math tests: If your child “Partially Met” the standard for this chapter, I sent home some extra practice pages. These do not need to be returned to school.

2. Math fact practice - due 9/17

3. Math Chapter 3 letter (Chapter 2 will be incorporated throughout chapters 3 and 4)

4. Continents and Oceans quiz


Some highlights from the week:

-Book Fair - we love all the new books!! Thank you families and PTO!!

-Author Visit- we learned lots of great things about how books are made! Image preview

-Read-a-thon - our class has already read over 3,600 minutes!! Please keep reading… recording, and return paper again next Friday!


Here is a look into what we have been working on in class:

Reading/Writing:

-Read-aloud novel:finished Judy Moody

-Whole group read-alouds: Two Bobbies

-Comprehension focus: theme, opinion, writing about what we read

-Writing: Autobiography


Math:

-Wrapped up chapter 1 

-rounding

-Started chapter 3: adding big numbers with and without regrouping (see the letter for more details)


Social Studies:

-Continents and Oceans

-Using an Atlas

-Up next: Ancient Civilizations 


Homework:

-read 20 minutes daily

-On Monday, students will bring home new spelling lists. They should spend a few minutes each day practicing the words. We will do online tests (spellingcity) each Friday. TEST SCORES can be found each week under “My Records” in your child’s spellingcity account.

Coming Up:

-MAP reading test: Tuesday, Sept.17th and Thursday, Sept. 19th - This is a change due to a Cornelia scheduling conflict.

-MAP math test: Tuesday, Sept. 24th, Wednesday, Sept. 25th

-No School Sept. 30th - Teacher Staff Development

-Bennett’s Super Hero Presentation: Thursday, October 10th (You should have received a school wide email about this program earlier this week.)
