Minnesota Parent Magazine article on mindfulness techniques used at Valley Crossing
Greetings Valley Crossing community! My name is Dr. Jennifer Gervais and I have been the school social worker at Valley Crossing since fall 2016. Prior to coming to Valley Crossing I worked in higher education as the Social Work Field Coordinator for the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and The College of St. Scholastica. I adjunct in the evenings for various colleges in the Twin Cities.
I graduated with my bachelors in social work in 1999 from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, masters in social work from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2000, and doctorate in education from Hamline University in 2015. My professional career has focused on working with children, adolescents and families coping with mental illness. I have served in a variety of capacities on a micro, mezzo, and macro level treating, advocating, and educating children and adolescents with mental health issues. I began my career in a k-5 setting and I am excited to be back working in an elementary school providing social emotional support for children and resources for staff and parents/guardians.
I am excited to offer a push-in model of social work at Valley Crossing. This model allows me to consult with teachers and coach students in the moment in their natural environment. I purposely came to Valley Crossing because it is a Responsive Classroom community and I am excited to be able to build on this philosophy and practice by facilitating social emotional learning with staff, students, and families.
