Throughout the semester students will focus mainly on the two following areas in technology through engineering.  This class works on problem solving, creativity, and solving problems creatively. I work hard to tier all instruction to all students and enjoy watching so many students learn and solve problems on their own.    

Automation and Robotics (AR)

  • Students trace the history, development, and influence of automation and robotics. They learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation and computer control systems. Students use a robust robotics platform to design, build and program a solution to solve an existing problem.
  • Students work hands on using FischerTechnik work kits. They work in small groups to solve numerous challenges.
  • RoboPro is the computer software used to in the later part of this unit. 
Energy and the Environment (EE)
  • Students investigate the impact of energy on our lives and the environment. They design and model alternative energy sources and participate in an energy expo to demonstrate energy concepts and innovative ideas. Students evaluate ways to reduce energy consumption through energy efficiency and sustainability.
  • Presentations will be giving about the research they have done.
The Design Process
  • With most of our projects students will be asked to follow the eight steps of the design process.  Following these steps will give a better understanding of the engineering process and how to problem solve.
