I am excited to be part of the Neighborhood A K-1 teaching team.  I have worked at Valley Crossing since 1996 in a variety of positions including kindergarten teacher, literacy and math primary teacher and part-time lead teacher of Neighborhood C.  A graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, I have also taught Early Childhood Family Education classes and third grade.  Hobbies of mine include gardening, walking and reading.  I live in Woodbury with my husband and have three grown children.  My Hope and Goal this year is to learn more about and implement new learning from AMC (Assessing Math Concepts) Anywhere into the classroom.

I am so excited to be teaching first grade at Valley Crossing this year! I began my teaching career in 2000 and have taught kindergarten, pre-kindergarten and first grade. I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in Education from Concordia University, St. Paul. In 2005 I also received my Master's Degree from Concordia University, St. Paul in Early Childhood. I live in Woodbury with my husband, Nick, our two daughters, Sydney and Charlotte, our mini golden doodle, Louie, and our guinea pig, Pepper. In my free time I love to read, spend time with friends and family, sing and perform with Community Theater, and play volleyball. My Hope and Goal for this year is to create a loving and supportive learning environment where my students will grow and flourish to their full potential.

Sheila Franzen
A K/1 Teacher

I have been teaching at Valley Crossing since 2003. Both of my daughters attended Valley Crossing and still talk about their adventures from elementary school. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago.  I received my Bachelor’s Degree from St. Mary's College and completed my Master’s Degree from the University of Minnesota. When I am not teaching Kindergarten and 1st graders, I enjoy long walks with my dogs, reading books and practicing yoga. My Hope and Dream for this school year is to create a safe and welcoming community for students to learn and grow.
