March is "Music in our School's Month"! Crest View will celebrate the occasion with lots of music and special performances. On Thursday, March 14, 2013 we'll have a visit from the District 279 Children's Chorus for a concert at 10:30am. in our Gym. Get ready to hear beautiful music and learn more about singing in a chorus. All students are invited to come to the performance, and we're honored to have two of our own Crest View students in the Children's Chorus!
Next on our musical tour through March, we are fortunate to see a live performance by a guest musician coming to our school! The musician is an Ojibwe musician and educator named Lyz Jaakola and we will have Lyz come to Crest View and perform for all of our students on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 2pm. in the Gym. The program will last about 45 minutes and I’ll be teaching the accompanying curriculum that goes along with the musician’s visit starting in February leading up to the performance and Lyz’s visit to our school. In case you’d like more information on our guest musician and artist (as a part of the Classical MPR Artist in Residence school outreach), please check out the website below. I’m really excited about hosting this program and having our students get this unique opportunity to see a professional musician perform. Thank you to the Classical MPR Artist in Residence program for the experience!
WHEW! Finally, to finish out our Month at school in March, we'll celebrate with the 6th Grade Talent Showcase. 6th Grade students have been preparing and working hard on their singing, dancing and musical acts for this year's Talent Showcase. We'll cheer them on and be dazzled by their talents on March 22, 2013 (the last day of school before our Spring Break!) with two performances at 1pm and another at 2:15pm. All students and families are invited to attend!
Enjoy the upcoming musical events we have to offer here at Crest View!

For the third year in a row, Osseo Area Schools has been named one of the “Best Communities for Music Education” by the NAMM Foundation. Osseo is the only Minnesota school district to have received the award for the past three consecutive years, and the only school district in the metro area that received the district-level award this year.
