Welcome to Ms. Kelzenberg's EL Classroom Site!

Letter to Families about Distance Learning- grades PreK and 3-5 EL

EL Google Meets
I have been asked to make regular contact with my EL students.  I'd also like for my students to get some interaction with each other.  The primary way to do this is through Google Meets.  For grades 3-5, we usually will introduce a reading strategy and article or story on Monday and on Wednesday we will have a class discussion of the reading.  For PreK, I will try and do simple interactive activities like flashcards or games.  Please see the information below for the days and times for the Google Meets.  Please click the link below and sign on at the correct time.  I also sent calendar invites to grades 3-5 student emails and PreK parent emails.

Mondays and Wednesdays
9:00-9:30- PreK
9:30-10:00- 3rd grade
1:45-2:15- 4th grade
2:15-2:45- 5th grade

Google (Hangouts) Meet joining info
Refer to your email or the email sent to your student's email address.  If you can't find it, text me back or email me and I will get it to you.

Office Hours
Email is the easiest way to get in contact with me; I check email often during the day and overnight.  I am available Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00-10:00 and from 1:45-2:45 for "live" help.  Please use the Google Meets link or dial-in using the phone number.  You can also reply to the text messages I have been sending you.  Since I work with 4 grade levels, there may be times when I am called to another meeting and can't be online.  If this happens, please email me or try again later.

Schoology or Seesaw
For PreK, I am using Ms. Faris classroom's Seesaw page and will be posting videos and materials two or three times a week.  You can download the Seesaw app or go through Safari or Chrome browsers.
For grades 3-5 I am posting in Schoology.  You can download the app in Self Service or go through Safari or Chrome.  If you go through Safari or Chrome, you want to search for OSSEO Schoology.  Click on the top left three lines and go to "Courses."  There is a separate course for EL in the courses section.  Click on "Materials" to see assignments.  Schoology has been having issues, so please don't rely on the "Updates" section or the list of things due on the side.  Go directly to "Materials" and complete what is listed that you haven't completed yet.  Please complete any assignments listed; the assignments are not optional unless noted.

RAZ Kids
I will be assigning books to read and questions to answer for RAZ Kids.  You can download the app in Self Service.  The app is called "Kids A-Z" and there is a robot for the icon.  You do not need to have the app; you can go in through Safari or Chrome browser instead.
My name is Brandice Kelzenberg and the teacher is bkelzenberg1.  Then, find your icon and put in your password.  I sent all passwords for grades 3-5 as a Schoology message and I will send PreK passwords by email.  After you log in, go to "My Assignment" and go from there.

We may be using other apps or websites as needed.  I will communicate this in the students' assignments in Seesaw (PreK) or Schoology (grades 3-5).

About Me...

This year, I am teaching ELD to PreK, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.  I also co-teach in different subjects.
I have been a full-time teacher for sixteen years.  (I was a substitute teacher for three years prior.)
This is my eighth year at Birch Grove and my tenth in ISD #279.  I have loved working with the awesome staff and students here at Birch Grove.
I have a BA in History, an M.Ed. in Social Studies from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and an MA in ESL from Hamline University.
My favorite way to spend time is to be with my family.  My hobbies include reading and traveling.
