We are pleased to announce a new competition at our school that we are calling March Math Madness aimed at increasing students’ math skills. The competition will be completed using DreamBox, the online math program every student has access to. The theme of the competition is basketball and the competition will be held March 6 – April 7.
There are three aspects to this competition:
1. Classroom versus Classroom
Each week your student’s classroom will compete head-to-head against another classroom in their grade level. At the end of the week the classroom with the lead in total minutes on DreamBox, DreamBox lessons completed, standards met, and average percent of students active on Dreambox will be awarded one point per category. The winning classroom will have the most points at the end of the week. In the event of a tie the DreamBox category of growth percentage will be used as the tiebreaker. At the end of the competition the classroom in each grade level with the best win-loss record will receive medals. Scores will be updated daily and posted on the bulletin board outside of the gym.
2. Whole School Challenge
If the entire school logs 200,000 minutes cumulatively from March 6 to April 7 the students will be rewarded with an extra afternoon recess sometime during the last two weeks of school.
3. Classroom MVPs (Most Valuable Pupils)
Each week the teachers will select one student from their classroom to receive the Most Valuable Pupil certificate, which will be personally delivered by our mascot Kit-Kat who will be dressed in basketball attire. The selection of a most valuable pupil will be based upon participation on DreamBox as well as contributions made in the classroom.
We hope that you will support us in this effort by designating a few minutes each night for your student to sharpen their math skills using their DreamBox account. For more information about DreamBox please visit www.dreambox.com/at-home
