Survey for Interest in a before/after school Spanish Language Enrichment Program

Red Pine is considering offering a before or after school Spanish language enrichment program and we would like to have your input. Community Education contracts with University Language Center and hosts Spanish enrichment programs across several of our other district elementary schools. This high-quality enrichment program is a year-long program beginning in October and ends in May. The program is one hour in length and meets two times per week. Classes are taught in spanish and are presented in a fun and creative approach.

Because this curriculum is a not part of the school day, fees need to cover all costs of the program. Families are charged approx. $699 for around 52-54 lessons.  To make it more affordable, parents have the opportunity to make 4 installment payments, October-Dec. The fess end up being less than $13/lesson.

We are very excited about this opportunity for our students at Red Pine. Language acquisition has numerous academic benefits. Please take a moment to answer these few questions.

Thank you, your input is valuable!

LAST CALL -----Parental Input for the 2017-2018 School Year:

Parents wishing to give input for their child’s placement in a classroom for the 2017-2018 school year may do so in written form until Friday, April 21, 2017. Direct requests for a specific teacher will not be accepted. This is due to the fact that some teachers may change grade levels or positions due to a variety of reasons. However, if there is a teacher you feel would not be a good match for your child, that information is welcome. As an entire staff, we spend a great deal of time at the end of each school year working on class lists that will help students be successful. Email is the preferred form of communication so that Mr. Goeldner can send a verification reply. All parental documents should be emailed directly to Mr. Goeldner at drew.goeldner@district196.org.

Pokemon Cards

Recently there has been an increase in the number of issues at school and on the bus that are rooted in student use of Pokemon cards.  Due to the number of recent incidents that have interrupted student learning, we are asking that the students not bring the cards to school anymore.  Many teachers have already asked students not to bring them.  However, the bus has still been a place where many of the issues are starting with the Pokemon cards.  This morning Mr. Goeldner visited each classroom to explain the request.  If you have any questions regarding this, please call Mr. Goeldner or your student’s teacher.

Substitute teaching opportunities available

District 196 has substitute teaching opportunities available for interested persons with a valid Minnesota teaching license or a bachelor's degree and are willing to obtain a short call limited teaching license. Substitute teachers earn $120 for full-day assignments and $70 for half-day assignments (up to four hours and 15 minutes). All short call substitute candidates must complete a 20-hour orientation (April 17-21, 2017) before they can begin substitute teaching; individuals with a standard teaching license must attend a 2.5-hour orientation session. Please email tracy.simpson@district196.org if you are interested in this opportunity.

Food and Nutrition

Red Pine Elementary

Nurse’s Corner:

Water - kids need water throughout the day.  Please encourage them to bring in water bottles - the fountain isn’t enough to prevent headaches, stomach aches, sore throats, and thin secretions from colds or allergies.  According to Healthy Kids , 5-8 year olds should have 5 glasses of water a day (1 liter), 9-12 year olds 7 glasses of water a day (1.5 liters) and 13 plus 8-10 glasses of water a day (2 liters).  With the weather changing to warmer days outside, this is the minimum they should be drinking.  After recess or PE outside they should drink more for their daily total.   Thank you!
