School News:

It is hard to believe that we are almost through our 2016-2017 school year, but attendance is as important as ever!

Please help us finish out the school year strong by getting your student to school on time every day!

Students may enter the building after 9:10 am and the last bell rings at 9:25 am.

Emailing Absences to Teachers:

If you email your child’s teacher to report an absence, PLEASE make sure you copy the school office as well. If a teacher is out that day, the substitute cannot access the teacher’s email. The office needs to know the reason your student is absent and that they are safe. janie.moran@district196.org , jo.hutchins@district196.org , amy.bell@district196.org .  Thank you!

If your family is not returning to Red Pine next year, please let Janie Moran in the office know. Teachers are already working on class lists for next year. Email: janie.moran@district196.org or call the office at 651-423-7870. Thank you.

Another day to Spring Clean Miss Corrigan's Garden!

There is so much work to do in Miss Corrigan's Garden that we are having a second day! Please join us Wednesday, May 17 starting at 3:45 as we get Miss Corrigan's garden ready for the season!  Bring your gloves and tools to help!  What a great way to welcome spring, help RP look amazing  and honor Miss Corrigan!  See you there!!

Lost and Found

The week of May 15, items from the lost and found box will be put out on tables in the hallway near the cafeteria.   They will be on display through May 31.  Please be sure you or your child(ren) check the table if you are missing something.  The items will be bagged up and taken to a charity on the last day of school.  Thank you.

Student Council Sponsored…Books For Africa Drive

Student Council will be collecting books for BOOKS FOR AFRICA through the month of May.

Book Drive boxes and Donation Jars will be in the Office, Mrs. Anderson/Wilson (Rm112) and Mrs. Denmark’s (Rm 110).

This will help communities in Africa where students and schools don’t have many books to read.

Thank You for supporting Red Pine Student Council!

Books For Africa Accepts:

·    Popular fiction and nonfiction reading books (soft and hard cover).

·    Books that are 15 years old or newer.

·    Primary, secondary, and college textbooks (soft and hard cover) with a 2000 or newer publish date.

·    Reference books such as encyclopedias and dictionaries published in 2005 or later.

·    Medical, nursing, IT, and law books with a 2000 or newer publish date.

Books For Africa Does NOT Accept:

·    Magazines, journals, cookbooks, wedding books, home decorating, murder mystery books and music books.

Greetings from the RP Library,

We've started our last checkouts for the school year this week.  Next week we'll start collecting  all library book returns from students and staff.  If your student(s) has a book that has been marked as lost this year or before, keep your eye out for a fine notice in Friday Folders.  Books that are not returned by the last day of school will incur a fine to replace the book over the summer.  Thank You for your help with this!

On a separate note, the RP Library is looking for flat bed sheet donations in any size or color.  We would like to cover the bookshelves over the summer w/ something reusable, instead of long rolls of paper.  Please send a flat bed sheet down to the RP Library if you are willing to donate to our cause.  We will need at least 15 or more.

Health & Wellness

Come Join the RP Health and Wellness Committee!

We are looking for parents to join our RP Health and Wellness Committee for the 2017-2018 school year.  We will be meeting Monday, MAY 22nd at 4:30 in the RP Media Center to start planning for next year.  Please join us if you would like to check us out.  It’s a fun committee with a lot of different levels of volunteer opportunities!  Hope to see some new faces on the 22nd!  If you have any questions, please contact Denise Vonasek at denise.vonasek@district196.org.

Red Pine Blood Drive

Since last year's blood drive was such a success, we decided to do it again! We will be having another blood drive at Red Pine on:

Date:       Tuesday, May 16th

Hours:     7:30 am – 1:30 pm

Location: Red Cross Bus in Red Pine parking lot

This year's goal is 45 donors.

To make an appointment go to www.redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code "Red Pine" in the blue box in the upper right hand that shows "Give Blood. Find a Blood Drive".

We are still in need of several volunteers to help with the blood drive. Responsibilities are very light and just require a person to be at the sign-in table. Please contact Mary Kate Nelson at 651-423-7870 if you can help in any way or have questions. Thank you!

Reminder >>> Children Home Alone:  Dakota County Guidelines

Children 7 years old or under cannot be left alone for any period of time.

Children 8-9 years old can be alone for up to 2 hours.

Children 10-13 years old cannot be alone for more than 8-12 hours.

Children under 11 years old cannot babysit younger children.

All of these guidelines assume that children know how to reach a parent or adult, are not afraid to be alone, and have average behavior, health, and maturity levels for their age.  Occasionally other circumstances are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Nurse’s Corner:

Families of the Red Pine Students

I know….next year already!  Yes, we need to prepare.   I have forms on the Red Pine Website that you can download and print for Medications, Epi Pens, Immunizations, Diabetic plans, asthma plan and seizure plan.

I will need a new one every fall.  The date needs to be 2017-2018 with a doctor’s signature.  New and updated orders.  Please bring these in on assessment days or the week before school, along with the medication in a Ziplock bag with your child’s first and last name and grade.  Please have these items in BEFORE the first day of school.  I have plenty of time on assessment days and the week before school to talk to you and answer your questions.  The first week of school, I will not have the opportunity to talk with you as 800 plus students will enter the building.

You can access  these forms by going to the Red Pine Website. Click on “Parents” then click on” Nurse”.  On the left hand side will be a list, the 3rd one down is “forms”, click on that link and choose your form and print.  The medications needs to be in the original bottle and dropped off by parents.
