A Message From the Principal:
Dear Red Pine Families,
Red Pine has begun using a new electronic sign-in system for everyone who visits Red Pine during the school day. The LobbyGuard system was piloted at Apple Valley High School last year and will be installed at every school in our district as part of safety and security improvements included in the bond referendum that was approved by district voters last year.
Under the new system, all visitors are asked to show a government-issued identification (driver’s license, passport or military ID) if they wish to leave the office area to enter another part of the school. The LobbyGuard system checks each visitor’s name against the national sex offender database only, takes a photo of the visitor, then prints an adhesive name badge that includes the visitor’s name and photo. Visitors are required to wear the name badge at all times while they are in the building and return it to the office to sign out before leaving.
If a visitor does not have any form of government-issued identification, a school staff member will talk with them about the reason for their visit before deciding whether to issue them a visitor name badge.
The LobbyGuard sign-in system will make our school an even safer place by ensuring identification of every visitor who is in the building at any given time during the school day. All staff members wear a district-issued identification badge and are instructed to question any adult in the building who does not have a name badge issued by the LobbyGuard system.
If you have questions or concerns about our new electronic sign-in system, please contact me at 651-423-7828.

Greetings from the Red Pine Library-
Happy New Year from the Red Pine Library. The New Year is a great opportunity to set reading goals.
For our Red Pine Readers we have a fun opportunity which will also earn new books for the Red Pine Library.
We will host a Scholastic Book Fair during conferences on Wednesday, February 8th from 4-8 and Thursday, February 9th from 12-8.
Red Pine hasn't had a Scholastic Book Fair in more than 12 years! Many students and staff are excited for this opportunity. To make it a success we need volunteers...we need YOU!
Volunteering at the Scholastic Book Fair over Conferences is the perfect way to help kids find the books they can't wait to read while earning free books for Red Pine's Library. Sign up now or feel free to check with us about this fun and rewarding volunteer experience.

Colds, Flus, and just plain feeling off. It’s hard for kids to get back into the swing of things when they had so much fun at home. Just a few reminders for your children – drink plenty of water as it helps thin those cold secretions so they are not stuck in your throat. Get plenty of rest, as the school day is a place to learn and grow. Eat healthy and get a little exercise.
We have hand sanitizer donated by the Urgency Room around the building. I am encouraging anyone who coughs, sneezes, blows their nose to use the sanitizer or wash hands. We are in the thick of winter and germs are easily passed.
Dress appropriately – bring extra pants or socks in back pack if need be. Make sure your children have warm jackets, hats, mittens and snow pants if we do go outside. It’s so much more fun when you are warm.
Breakfast is important. Please eat enough and the right foods to keep you going throughout the day.
Have a great weekend. The week of the 9th is a full week of school, stay rested, well fed, and hydrated.

Give Kids a Smile
Minnesota dental professionals are concerned about the growing number of children who don’t have access to dental care. That’s why about 2,000 dental professionals will come together on February 3rd and 4th to provide free dental care to children in need. All patients must have appointments in advance and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Parents may call United Way 211 or 1-800-543-7709 to get the phone number of a providing dentist in their area. You can also go to the following website for a list of providing dentists, www.mndental.org/gkas .
