Think Summer!  CAHOOTS 2017 Preview

Parents, it’s time to start thinking about summer and how you’ll help your children keep their math and reading skills sharp.  A NEW program is being offered through Community Education … Cahoots is replacing GRASP.  The program is very similar to GRASP, as it is a workbook correspondence program for math and reading, but designed to more closely match our district curriculum through an engaging and reflective approach to learning.  However, Cahoots should not be considered as a replacement for participating in summer school, if a child qualifies.  Cahoots registration information will be sent home with students February 21-24.  Sample workbooks will be available for review in the school office during parent/teacher conferences and the month of March.  The deadline for registration is April 4.  Cost for one book is $33 and $64, if both the math and reading book are ordered.  Watch for more information later this winter.

Nurse’s Corner:

Red Pine Families,

We have a short week.  I would like to remind you – this is a FUN FANTASTIC time for kids.  Sleepovers, up late, no schedule…WOOT! WOOT!

Monday will come quickly – PLEASE, PLEASE Sunday – try and have a normal routine.  If they are up late on a Sunday night, I usually tend to see them Monday morning, tired, stomach aches, sore throats, no breakfast.  This makes for a long difficult day for the kids to keep their learning brains in check.  Also, please be vigilant on checking for lice.  It doesn’t start in the school – it is usually picked up anywhere in the community – from the science museum, movie theater, sleepovers.  No sharing hats, brushes, ponytails!!

Also, families, this is the time of year for severe colds, ear infections, and strep.  At times you may need the nurse to give your child a medication during the day.  In order for the nurse to do this, she will need a doctor’s order.  This is not what is written on the bottle.  This is an actual order – in writing of what is to be given, the dose, when and with the doctor’s signature.  They can fax it to the nurse (651-423-7875), or when you bring in the prescription, bring in a paper copy of the order.  If the doctor’s need a school form, the nurse can fax it to them.

Enjoy your long weekend and drink water, eat healthy and sleep to make your return to school on Monday a good one!
