Substitute teaching opportunities available

District 196 has substitute teaching opportunities available for interested persons with a valid Minnesota teaching license or a bachelor's degree and are willing to obtain a short call limited teaching license. Substitute teachers earn $120 for full-day assignments and $70 for half-day assignments (up to four hours and 15 minutes). All short call substitute candidates must complete a 20-hour orientation before they can begin substitute teaching; individuals with a standard teaching license must attend a 2.5-hour orientation session. School News:

CAHOOTS 2017 Summer Program (GRASP replacement)

Parents, we are pleased to announce a new K-5 summer math and reading correspondence workbook program entitled Cahoots.  The program is very similar to GRASP (portable and flexible), but designed to more closely match our district curriculum through an engaging and reflective approach to learning.  After completing each lesson and checking answers online, students will complete a response card and send to a ‘Reflection Buddy’ who will send a written response back.  Cahoots should not be considered a replacement for participating in summer school, if a child qualifies.  Cahoots is not intended to replace regular reading for enjoyment or math activities that strengthen a child’s fluency and love for math.

You will receive a letter and enrollment forms the week of February 21.  Final registration is due April 4.  It is recommended students work on the grade level just completed, to review and reinforce skills learned during the school year.  Please discuss with your child’s teacher, if you feel another level may be more suitable.  View sample Cahoots workbooks through the end of March in the office.

Native American Parents

On behalf of our Native American Parent Advisory Committee (NAPAC), we invite you to our next meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 23rd held at the School of Environmental Studies located at 12155 Johnny Cake Ridge Road, Apple Valley, MN 55124. We will be discussing our school district and The Indian Education program and the Resolution of Concurrence/Non-Concurrence process. The Resolution of Concurrence/Non-Concurrence is essentially a process that asks if the program is meeting the needs of our Native American Students. Supervision for school aged children will be provided. We also ask that you bring your favorite dish to share for a potluck dinner.

Notes from the Music Room!

To the families of third and fifth grade students:

I hope you have all checked the Red Pine calendar and marked down the following music program dates. The fifth graders will be performing “F.I.T.” on Thursday, February 23 and the third graders will follow with “We Are America” on Thursday, March 2. Both of the concerts will begin at 6:30 p.m. Students are asked to arrive between 6:00 and 6:20 and report to their classrooms. Thank you in advance for your continued support of the music program at Red Pine!

Red Pine Spring Arts Night –May 11th!

The Spring Arts Night committee is looking for a few volunteers to help with the planning.

RP Spring Arts Night --Silent Auction Items Needed!

The Silent Auction at Spring Arts Night has raised a record number of funds that go directly back into our school. We are hoping to exceed our goals for this year and are once again looking for donations for the Silent Auction. If you have a business and are willing donate to our fundraiser, please contact Jayme Smrstick at jaymesmrstick@gmail.com . The Red Pine PTO is a tax-exempt charity and your donations are tax deductible.

Red Pine PTO Scholarships

Scholarship applications for the Red Pine PTO scholarship are now available on the Eagan High School and Rosemount High School Family Connections pages, as well as in hard copy at the schools' Career Centers. Eligible students are graduating high school seniors at Eagan HS and Rosemount HS who attended Red Pine Elementary for at least one year between 1st and 5th grades, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and who intend to continue their education at a university, junior college, or vocational school. Completed applications are due by no later than April 14, 2017, and scholarship recipients will be notified by no later than May 5, 2017. PTO Meeting

Our next PTO meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 9 at 6:30pm in the Media Center. We hope to see you there!


This year the Red Pine Twins Day and 5th graders singing the National Anthem will be held on Saturday,  April 15th - Game Time TBD.
