School News:

Big Congratulations Destination Imagination and Math Masters Teams!!!

A Super Big Congratulations to the Penguins From Jupiter - Morgan Becker, Ella Bromley, Allie Gladen, Emily Hopke, Kate Reed, and Ashley Swenson - for winning a spot in the Science Challenge to go on to the Global Destination Imagination Tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee at the end of May.  We are so proud to have these amazing kids represent Red Pine alongside Destination Imagination teams from all over the world!!!

And Awesome Job to Red Pine's Minnesota Molecules - Alessandra Agpalasin, Noah Daniel, Summer Jacobs, Aashish Mankala, Kayla Peters, and Zach Wittmayer for just barely missing earning a spot to go on to the Global Competition in the Engineering Challenge.  They built a structure that could hold an incredible 350 lbs. and came so close to advancing to the finals in Tennessee.  Many of the younger members of this team are already thinking about trying again next year!  Wow!

Great job to our Outstanding Math Masters Team - Griffin Caffrey, Ezra Gebeyehu, Hale Halvorson, Sakif Khan, Michael Kostecka, Raegan Marx, Max Monzel, Adi Sunkam, Carter Veen, Amber Walker, Jack Williams, and Amelia Zaske who also competed this Saturday with much success I hear! More specific information coming soon as I left them early to go to the Destination Imagination State Competition.

Site Council

There are two open positions on the Red Pine Site Council.  If you are interested on being part of our Site Council please send Mr. Goeldner your name by Monday, May 15.  Each position serves a two year term.  Per our by-laws, we will be drawing names to fill those positions at the May 18 Site Council Meeting.

Red Pine Blood Drive

Since last year's blood drive was such a success, we decided to do it again! We will be having another blood drive at Red Pine on:

Date:       Tuesday, May 16th

Hours:     7:30 am – 1:30 pm

Location: Red Cross Bus in Red Pine parking lot

This year's goal is 45 donors.

To make an appointment go to www.redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code "Red Pine" in the blue box in the upper right hand that shows "Give Blood. Find a Blood Drive".

We are looking for several volunteers to work at the blood drive. You can volunteer for one hour, two hours, or as long as you would like. Please contact Mary Kate Nelson at marykate.nelson@district196.org if you would like to help us out. Thank you!

The 2016-17 Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award winners! Were announced this week.  If you haven’t had a chance to check out these titles for Grades 3-5- they were chosen by Minnesota Readers as the 3 favorites for this year.

First Place: El Deafo by Cece Bell

Second Place: Almost Home by Joan Bauer

Third Place: Nickel Bay Nick by Dean Pitchford


The winners of the 2016-17 Star of the North Picture Book were also announced this week.  These are wonderful choices voted on by Minnesota Readers in Grades K-2.

Second Place- Wolfie the Bunny by Ame Dyckman

Third Place- Night Animals by Gianna Marino

Gertens Plant Card Fundraiser

Gertens and Red Pine have teamed up again for a Plant Card Fundraiser.  Profits (15%) from this fundraiser will help support Red Pine’s classroom activities.  Consider picking up a few for gifts:  Mother's Day, Father's Day, housewarming, birthdays, showers, wedding gifts, anniversaries, memorials . . . and more!  Orders are due May 5th!

Red Pine Alumni College Scholarships

The Scholarship Committee is in the process of reviewing all of the applications it has received and hopes to announce the two recipients of this year's Red Pine PTO Scholarship by May 5, 2017.

Box Tops

A friendly reminder to continue to turn in your collection sheets outside the office with your teacher's name on them. Also, please bundle the Bonus Box Tops separately.   Continuing through May 26th we will be having another competition to see which classroom will win an ice cream treat/popsicle party.  Go Cardinals! Winner will be announced.

Red Pine Spring Arts Night – May 11th!

Silent Auction:

The Silent Auction at Spring Arts Night has raised a record number of funds that go directly back into our school. We are hoping to exceed our goals for this year and are once again looking for donations for the Silent Auction. If you have a business and are willing donate to our fundraiser, please contact Jayme Smrstick at jaymesmrstick@gmail.com .

The Spring Arts Night committee is looking for volunteers to help before, during, and after Spring Arts Night. There are several opportunities.
Setup help after school, ticket selling, classroom basket and silent auction monitoring. We are looking for volunteers to donate just 30 minutes. If you are interested, please sign via the signup genius.

School Pak

We are up and running on the School Pak website for the 2017-18 school year.  


You will be able to have it shipped for free to school and it will be waiting in your child's classroom during the Open House in August, or you can have it shipped to your home for a fee. The last day to have the paks shipped to school for free is
June 10, 2017 **

Health Heroes

We have 14 new Health Heroes for the 2017-18 school year. They are: Reid Barrett, Megan Zabel, Olivia Tompkins,, Iszabelle Say, Anna Lee Holzer, Makayla Zuege, Isy Purrington, Hassan Ahmed, Avary Otto, Kaylie Cook, Jana Albarghash, Caire Kindseth, Bailey Childs and Prajna Hosamane.

They will educate kids on handwashing and staying healthy through the AM news, stock health hero carts weekly, and will help organize a health breakfast three times for the staff throughout the year. They will also design their own shirts and present at the end of the year what they learned and what they feel they brought to Red Pine Elementary students and staff to the PTO.

“Doggie Dash” at Rosemount High School

Please join us for a Doggie Dash at Rosemount High School on Saturday, May 20!
