Math Olympiad
Math Olympiad is an international math competition.  Last year 150,000 students from 6,000 teams worldwide participated in the Olympiads.  49 of the 50 states and about 30 other countries were represented.  Red Pine students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade may choose to participate in the monthly contests.  There are 5 contests with 5 challenging problems each for a total of 25 math problems.  The students participate in the contests in their classrooms at school.  The contest dates for 2010-2011 are Tuesdays, Nov. 16th, Dec. 14th, Jan. 11th, Feb. 8th, and March 8th.  All students who receive a score of 3 or higher on any contest are recognized by having their names announced on the KRPN news.  In March, the 35 students with the highest scores out of the 25 problems make the official Red Pine Math Olympiad Team and have their photos placed on the wall in the Red Pine Math Hall of Fame hallway by the elevator.  For more information, contact Linda Denmark or go to the official Math Olympiad website at www.moems.org
