Math Masters
Math Masters of Minnesota provides competitions in mathematics for thousands of students in 5th and 6th grades.  More than 5000 students competed in 2010 at 35 different sites around the state of Minnesota and in Wisconsin.  The competition is designed to promote excellence in thinking skills pertaining to mathematics and was founded upon research concerning the characteristics of mathematically gifted people.  The purpose of the program is to challenge students and schools to use critical thinking skills and problem solving abilities and to give recognition for academic effort and achievement.  Red Pine’s Math Masters program is for 5th graders.  Red Pine will plan to send three teams of five 5th graders each for a total of fifteen 5th graders to the Regional Math Masters Competition at STEM School Cedar Park Elementary in Apple Valley on Saturday, April 30, 2011.  In preparation for the April competition, all interested 5th graders will have the opportunity to participate and be part of Red Pine’s Math Masters team and will receive weekly problems to practice.  A selection test will be given in the Spring to form the three teams of five students each.  For more information, contact Linda Denmark or check out the website at
