Mrs. Jewell graduated from The Defiance College in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Secondary Education, and a teaching certification in Information Technology. She began teaching at Antwerp Local School in 1998, and completed her master's degree in Pure Mathematics from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) in 2001.

Mrs. Jewell lives in Woodburn, Indiana with her husband, Michael, and two children.
