Poetry Out Loud

Poetry Out Loud is a national recitation contest.  In 2017, more than 23,000 students from 88 high schools across Massachusetts participated in Poetry Out Loud.

AMHS has sent eight students to compete in the state competition: In 2014, Darlande Joseney, our two-time school champion, placed third in the state.  She came in behind the 2013 and 2012 state champions.  Allison Davis represented our school in 2011, beating out more than 18,700 students from Massachusetts to take a place in the top six.  Other state semi-finalists include Queyka Saint-Louis in 2018, Romey Adolphe in 2017, Donovan Potemri in 2016, Jahaira DeJesus in 2015, Bridget Kelley in 2012, Sean Silverman in 2010, and Ammari Edwards in 2009.

The winner from Massachusetts will win an all-expenses-paid trip to compete in the National Finals in Washington D.C. in April. The National Champion takes home $20,000, so cross your fingers for our contestants!
